Mysore Online – Internet in India

by admin on August 10, 2008

There seems to be as many Internet cafés in Mysore as there are coconut stands. By Western standards, prices are dirt cheap but connection speed can vary greatly. Here are few places frequented by yoga students.

Anu’s Internet Café

367, 2nd Main, 3rd Stage
Gokulam, Mysore
Telephone:        984-527-9513
Anu’s Internet Café was installed in February 2005 so it is pretty brand new and clean with relatively fast connection speeds and reasonable rates of Rs. 10 per half hour and Rs. 20 per hour. She also offers WiFi – wireless internet access for your laptop. Anu’s family is wonderful, and this is one of my favorite places.

Dishnet

Kuvempunagar Double Road
Saraswatipuram, Mysore
Fast Internet service and reasonably priced if you purchase the 10-hour package for Rs. 180.  It’s comfortable and air-conditioned, close to Ventakesh’s shala, Atmavikasa Center of Yogic Sciences, and you can hook up your own laptop to the network if you like. They have several terminals and are usually open until 11 pm. It’s reputed to be the best quality internet service in Mysore.

Net Corner

2nd Floor, 9th Cross
Gokulam, Mysore
Located around the corner from AYRI, Net Corner offers very basic and slow connections at Rs. 10 for each half hour and Rs. 20 for an hour.

Reliance Webworld

32813, Kalidasa Road
New No. D, 10th cross
Vani Vilas Mohalla, Mysore   570 002
Telephone:        821-309-0007/0008
Reliance Webworld has modern terminals with flat screen monitors and web cams. Although not the cheapest place, lots of Gokulam yoga students go here for the proximity, the fast connections and the air-conditioned, comfortable surrounding. You are also able to buy internet time and “carry” it over until you’ve exhausted the minutes purchased. At smaller internet cafés, you usually pay per visit. It’s conveniently located right next door to Café Coffee Day and Green Leaf Restaurant.

Rishi Internet

Contour Rd & Main Road (aka 9th Cross)
Gokulam, Mysore 570 002
4 terminals for use at Rs. 20 per hour. They also offer VoIP phone calls over the Web. Connection tends to be slow.
