If you don’t want to lug heavy books to Mysore, there are several lending libraries for yoga students. You can borrow or leave behind books at Tina’s, Alia’s Guest House (formerly Kev Inn) and Mysore Mandala. If you’re looking for a bigger selection, a good bookstore with English titles is Ashok Book Centre. There is also Geetha’s in K.R. Circle. [click to continue...]

I’m not sure how I ended up on the CafePress.com website, but there I was. So I decided to search the word ‘ashtanga’ just for the hell of it.
Well, what do you know. A slew of yoga merchandise and some ashtanga specific. Even onesies! Wonder if these are “official?”
And yes I know, I have too much time on my hands, better spent nailing those elusive jump-throughs.

An official list of authorized and certified Ashtanga teachers was released this week by the newly renamed K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI.) Compared to the Ashtanga.com teacher directory, the number of teachers officially “allowed” to teach Ashtanga has been greatly reduced. Also of note in the new KPJAYI guidelines are the following:
- No Ashtanga-related workshops allowed
- Requirements for Ashtanga shalas
- Authorized and certified teacher criteria
Visit the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute website to read about the new guideline details and view the official teacher list.

Oh, the modern conveniences we take for granted. Nope, there aren’t any commercial laundromat in Mysore as near as I could find. Many yoga students wash their clothing themselves in a bucket and line dry. But for Rs. 6 – 10 per items, there are small shops that will wash, dry and fold your clothing. Usually within 24-48 hours, you can pick up your freshly laundered clothing wrapped in a neat paper parcel.
There’s a nice laundry service for Rs. 6 per piece located on the Main Road in Gokulam between Contour and Gokulam Roads. It’s acutally better than any laundromat I’ve ever been to!
