An official list of authorized and certified Ashtanga teachers was released this week by the newly renamed K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI.) Compared to the Ashtanga.com teacher directory, the number of teachers officially “allowed” to teach Ashtanga has been greatly reduced. Also of note in the new KPJAYI guidelines are the following:

  • No Ashtanga-related workshops allowed
  • Requirements for Ashtanga shalas
  • Authorized and certified teacher criteria

Visit the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute website to read about the new guideline details and view the official teacher list.

On the Way to Yoga District

Mysore Mandala Yoga Shala

by admin on August 7, 2008

Mysore Mandala Yoga Shala resides in an old traditional Indian home with wooden columns, jute rugs and a vaulted ceiling. It’s in the quaint neighborhood of Lakshmipuram, not far from where Pattahbi Jois began teaching Westerners in his original shala home before moving to Gokulam. Mysore Mandala is surrounded by a beautiful garden and houses a café in the backyard, a massage room, and a few offices – one with internet access available to students for a nominal fee.
